In the Clouds
We finally made it back to the jungle house. Our trip up north was a huge success in many ways. We got to see some new parts of Costa Rica, made new friends, and found some very cool coffee shops. But most importantly, we were able to make connections with other Christians in three different cities. With these connections we are beginning to see opportunities to serve and invest our time and love into the people of Costa Rica. It is a beautiful thing to see how God is leading us step by step.
We are looking at options for when our housesitting time ends, and are leaning toward moving up to Monteverde. It has everything we love about Costa Rica, including mountains, cloud forest, and coffee! We have a few weeks to get the details worked out, but it could be very cool.
Here's some pictures of the cloud forest in Monteverde. We took the canopy tour which included a 3k walk with hanging bridges. It was magnificent. The cloud forest is like a rain forest, but the elevation is higher, so the temps are cooler and you are actually waking in the clouds. So cool. The air is filled with tiny water droplets, and then sometimes it will actually turn into rain. All of that moisture and it's still less humid than the jungle!
Mossy trees, curly ferns and innumerable vines had me lost in a wonderful, oxygenated daydream at times. Bridges stretched over deep ravines where we could get a good look at the canopy some 60 meters off the ground. Some of the trees we saw were over 200 feet tall.
There is also a zip line tour through the forest that looked like a lot of fun. Other areas of the rain forest have sky trams or gondolas as well. But waking was the cheapest, simplest option for us, and we had a great time.
