Going Places
We made it to the beach finally! It felt like absolute freedom after being a week without a car. The water was warm, shallow, and had just enough waves to make Cassie nervous. But it was nice to get out and about.
Here's a couple pics of the Saturday market in Uvita. It's your basic farmer's market, and if I didn't know better I could easily mistake it for small town U.S.A. There's a lot of gringos selling their wares here. (Gringo is not really a derogatory term in Costa Rica. It's basically one step above a tourist, and just denotes that you're not a local.)
This week we are taking a longer trip up to the capital city, San Jose, and then possibly on up to Monteverde where we can do some hiking near the volcanoes, and maybe take a gondola through the cloud forest. I'm excited for the cooler temperatures up there. And the strawberries.
Here's a sneak peak at our bus ride up to San Jose:
Also, it's Holy Week this week. Thursday and Friday are national holidays, so lots of people will be heading to the beaches for vacation. We also expect to see some parades on Good Friday. It will be interesting seeing the differences in a Latin American Catholic country. If we are in Monteverde for Easter we may be able to go to a Quaker church Sunday morning. Lots of new adventures to come!
Love to you all,
Lisa, Michael and Cassie
